Le Chat Noir...
One of the things that I love about New York that it has these small but beautiful bistros scattered all over the city... I happen to walk by Chat Noir on the upper east side and the image of the black cat and 'Chat Noir' on their board (along with the lamp post) just took me back in time when Le Chat Noir (The Black Cat) were these entertainment house/ nightclubs where men and women would come dress up and be entertained by these larger than life shows on stage... All of it happening in the most beautiful and artful city in the world... Paris...

A Loose Shirt... A Good Shirt...
I love the slouchy or boxy fit of this shirt... Somehow its looks so perfectly proportionate and well put together knowing the fact that its a loose fitted shirt... I think the color white gives a deconstructed feel to it like the ones Calvin Klein does in his collections... Clean lines but moving away from the body... I particularly liked the placket detail on the shirt... I have always been a fan of well dressed musicians... It's like icing on the cake... Their outfit always has a purpose or a thought process behind it... In this case it seemed that the Chello Player wanted some ease while playing but still he managed to make it look so stylish with his whole persona...

A Culture Mix...
I am loving these ethnic shirts... One of the reasons for it is that I am an Indian and these prints are quite common back at home... I consider it as a perfect example of culture mix that's happening everywhere around us nowadays... I think the colors, the motifs and the way they wore makes it so much interesting than how I would actually picturise them... But then that's what culture mix is all about... Picking up things from different cultures and giving them a new look/ twist in your own way...

The Collective Style Project...
Recently I worked with two of my very good friends on a 'Personal Style Project'… It was a self conceptualized project that we came up with while we were discussing the effect of one's personal style on other people and self… The idea was to understand your own personal style and try to take it a step further and be a little daring while doing it… Puneesh (www.artrunk.wordpress.com) who is a musician/ composer likes to have a minimal and clean look… He is comfortable with whites and blacks, does not like strong or contrasting colors so much… For him being subtle is more important than making a big bold statement…
Anshul (www.theprojektor.wordpress.com) who is and engineer/ art enthusiast likes to experiment with his look but by the use of muted colors like brown, cream, beige, dark blue etc… His idea is to feel comfortable in whatever he wears…
So we sat down and discussed the possibilities of what we can do to take their personal style a notch up or maybe several… After a lot of 'Yes' and 'No'... digging into each others closet we finally decided what we'll do...
For Puneesh we decided a dressy/ dandy look… I think the whole look works very well… He not only projects an image of a fine dressed gentleman but a gentleman with a lot of flair… The whole persona looks so charming and fun…Puneesh added the red aviators at the very last moment and I think it works well with the striped tie and socks… He said (in a very charming way) that he feels like a million dollar man… to which we all laughed...
For Anshul we worked upon an arty/ boho look… I loved his blue long coat which had these construction lines as a part of the design detail… He thought that putting a peacock feather would make the look more interesting… which I completely agreed with… The pop of the color green works well with the blue coat and dark green trousers… The scarf and the brooch just completes the look...
I think his look was very strong in terms of visual representation of the wearers lifestyle… According to Anshul he felt as if he was a vagabond who was settled now and likes to wear clothing and accessories from various culture he'd been to…
It was interesting to see the effect this project had on all of us… We had a much more clear understanding of each others point of view about personal style since it was about doing something visually…
All in all this project was so much fun…the best part was that I was working with my friends so there was a lot of constructive thoughts floating around and also it gave me an opportunity to put my own style sensibilities to work which I learned (actually still learning) through my street style blog...
And by the way their blogs are amazing... Their blogs are all about aesthetics which already exist in our lives or are around us... Do check them out!

Moon Hooch & Some Yellow...
Your ears are affixed, your feet starts moving to a groovy beat and you are taken into a different and splendid world of happiness and music... That's
Moon Hooch for you... I have been following this band for some time now... 2 Saxophones and a Drum... That's all they need to make your feet move... What I like about the picture are the colors (Yellow) and the energy... I highly recommend them... They are playing on April 13th 2012 at Knitting Factory...

Minimal and Effective...
Personally I would never go for such a minimal and clean look... I would say it is very subtle for me, I like a lot of mixing & matching and colors... But somehow this outfit does it's job without any overload of colors or accessories...What I like about this picture is that it gives a peek into the lifestyle of the wearer... Puneesh is a dear friend of mine and a musician, he likes to be organized, clean and minimal in the way he looks and thinks...I like the combination of the hat, mandarin collar shirt with yoke, brown trousers and military boots... It does it's job without being grabbing too much attention...
